Doug Chafe C.F.P, C.I.M.
Doug Chafe is a vice-president and investment advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and is accredited as an Associate Portfolio Manager. He is also a Chartered Life Underwriter and a practicing member of Advocis. Mr. Chafe has served as a board member of CIBC Wood Gundy’s Advisory Council to Management. He is also a past Director of the Investment Dealer’s Association of Newfoundland and is an active supporter of several local charities, most notably the CIBC World Markets Children’s Miracle Day, the largest one-day corporate fundraising event devoted to children’s charities in Canada.

Jean Bruneau, LL.D.
Jean Lorraine (McInnis) Bruneau has served with numerous non-profit and community organizations. Her involvement has included being a long standing volunteer and supporter of the YMCA-YWCA, both locally and nationally.  As well she has been involved with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (chairwoman, 1987-90), The Law Society of Newfoundland (lay bencher 1982-2000), the Memorial University Botanical Garden Inc. (chairwoman 1997-2000) and the General Hospital Corporation (trustee for 10 years).  Dr. Bruneau has received several awards including the YMCA Canada Fellowship of Honour, the Gordon M. Stirling Distinguished Service Award from the Law Society of Newfounland, and a honourary degree of Doctor of Laws from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

John C. Perlin, C.M., C.V.O., LL.D., Treasurer
John Perlin has served on the boards of numerous charitable and nonprofit organizations including the Community Services Council of Newfoundland & Labrador, National President of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (Young Canadians Challenge), President of Wildlife Habitat Canada, Vice Chairman of the Salvation Army Territorial Advisory Board and Founding and Past Chairman of the Newfoundland and Labrador Legacy Nature Trust.  Mr. Perlin is the current Chairman of the Salvation Army’s Newfoundland East Advisory Board and the Rising Tide Theatre Board. He is the Chairperson Emeritus of the Quidi Vidi/Rennie’s River Development Foundation, having served as its Founding Chairman for the past 20 years. Dr. Perlin has a honourary degree of Doctor of Laws from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

William D. (Bill) Mahoney, OMM, CD, Secretary
William D. (Bill) Mahoney is the president/owner of Regal Realty Ltd., Murray Premises Hotel Inc., and St. John's Executive Suites Ltd.  Currently, he is the Chairman of the St. John’s International Airport Authority, the Newfoundland and Labrador Division of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society and he is Provincial Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council.  He is a former director of the John Howard Society and a current director of the Irish Newfoundland Business Partnership and as well, is a member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Advisory Council and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.

 Jennifer Guy, Vice-Chair
Jennifer Guy has over 30 years experience in communications and healthcare public affairs, including over 20 years as journalist and producer with the CBC. Following her journalism career, Ms. Guy served for 7 years as Executive Director of Public Affairs for the Ontario Medical Association. Most recently she spent 5 years working in international business development in the United Arab Emirates. Ms Guy is elected by Alumni as a member of the Board of Regents of Memorial University of Newfoundland. She also serves on the Board of Directors of The Community Foundation of Canada and is Vice Chair of  Winterset in Summer Literary Festival.

 

 

Sheila Devine
Sheila Devine is presently the Education and Policy Officer in the Office of the General Counsel at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her previous positions include the Director of the Office of Student Recruitment, Memorial University of Newfoundland; Director of Admissions, University of Calgary; Director of Equity Issues and Advisor to the President, University of Victoria; and Associate Vice-Principal (Faculty Relations), Queen’s University.  Ms. Devine has served as a member of several professional organizations including Centre for Higher Education, Research and Development, Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada, the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education, the Law Societies of Newfoundland and Alberta (non-practicing)
and the Kingston Community Foundation (Kingston, ON).

Lucy Dobbin
Lucy C. Dobbin has worked as CEO of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and The General Hospital in St. John’s and as a consultant in Nova Scotia, British Columbia and internationally. Now retired, Ms. Dobbin has served on the boards of numerous local and national health organizations including the Canadian Hospital Association, the Association of Canadian Teaching Hospitals, the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, the Accrediting Commission of Health Services Education and the St. Patrick’s Mercy Home Foundation. Lucy is a Rotarian and is Past President of the Rotary Club of St. John's Northwest

Viki O’Dea is the former executive director of the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, and a former producer and reporter with CBC Radio in St. John’s. She is presently a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters and is on the organizing committee of the Winterset In Summer Literary Festival. Her past volunteer work has included the Cancer Society’s Festival of Trees, the Girl Guides, and the Department of Justice Youth Diversion Program.

 John Peddle
John Peddle is President of AMP Associates (88) Ltd. and for the past fourteen years he has been the Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association (NLHBA) , and has been working with the NLHBA for over thirty-one years.  As Executive Director, he has represented the health system on many provincial and national committees and boards.  Mr. Peddle has been a volunteer for many years serving on the Board of the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers Council as a founding member 25 years ago and is currently the Past Chair of the Board.  John was on one of the first school councils in the province and currently serves as Chair of Bishops College School.

 

 

 Penelope M. Rowe, C.M.
Penelope Rowe is CEO of the Community Services Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. Under her leadership CSC spearheaded the development of Newfoundland's first Volunteer Centre, Working Group on Child Sexual Abuse, Early Childhood Training Centre, Family Resource Centre, and www.enVision.ca. Her vision also led to the creation of the provincial government's Strategic Social Plan. Ms. Rowe contributes to the federal government's Voluntary Sector Initiative, the Advisory Board of Health Canada’s Canadian Health Network, the Children's Advisory Panel of Clarica Inc. and the Premiers' Council on Social Development.

 

    Jamie M. Smith, Q.C.
Jamie M. Smith is the managing partner with the law firm Smith Coffey in St. John's, Newfoundland.  He is a director with the Community Services Council of Newfoundland and Labrador, chair of the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation and a member of the Canadian Bar Association.  He serves on a number of provincial and federal committees, is a past bencher and executive committee member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and past chair of the Drivers' Licence Suspension Review Board for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Barry J. Thomson, FEC, P Eng.
Barry Thomson is a member of the Board of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador of which he is the immediate Past President. He is a Fellow of Engineers Canada. Mr. Thomson is President and CEO of CECON Ltd., a consulting engineering firm with head office in Gander, NL. He is a member of the Board of the Gander International Airport Authority, Past President of the Gander Rotary Club and former Director of the Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce.

Deborah Wearn
Deborah has sixteen years experience in the nonprofit and voluntary sector including both senior managment and development leadership responsibilities. She is the Director, Development NL for CNIB and most recently was the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador. Prior to that, Deborah was the Campaign Manager for the Easter Seals House Campaign. She has extensive experience cultivating and stewarding corporate and personal donations as well as event planning. Deborah is a member of the NL Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals.
