Criteria
The aim of the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador is to promote the well-being of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and to contribute to the development of healthy communities.
Through its grants program, the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador seeks to support initiatives that:
- Benefit the public and address specific social welfare and health needs of the people and communities of Newfoundland and Labrador
- Maintain the province’s intellectual and cultural heritage and advance the arts within the community of Newfoundland and Labrador
- Preserve and protect the environment of Newfoundland and Labrador
- Encourage the advancement of education and scholarship
- Enhance community leadership and assist in the building of community capacity
- Ensure innovation and geographic and program diversity
Grants are made only to organizations registered as charities with Revenue Canada. Municipalities, schools, hospitals, registered Canadian amateur athletic associations and registered national arts service organizations are also qualified donees.
All applications are considered on the basis of merit and in light of funds available for distribution.
Repeat applications will be considered.
Guidelines
Normally grants from the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador are awarded in the Fall of each year.
Organizations seeking funds must demonstrate a strong and committed volunteer board of directors, fiscal responsibility and effective management of resources.
Grants are awarded for definite purposes and for projects covering a specific period of time. They are normally for amounts of $2000 or less.
Organizations receiving grants will be expected to submit a brief final report (one to two pages) describing the use of the funding and the outcome of the project.
Preference is given to programs which promote volunteer participation, and which do not duplicate services provided by other organizations.
Not Eligible
- Contributions to annual fund-raising drives
- Core operating expenses
- Deficit reduction
- Retroactive funding
- Direct religious activities
- Individuals (unless they are sponsored by an appropriate charitable organization)
- Political activities
- Medical or scientific research, unless expressly directed by a donor
- Individual scholarships or bursaries
Letters and applications will be accepted at any time, and grants will be awarded once each year.
